As if we needed yet more evidence that the GOP is anti-populist and anti-democratic. The government shutdown, engineered by a super-minority of GOP House members, has stricken federal funding of social services, national parks, and even scientific research.
And, how about that super-cool petition site run through the WhiteHouse.gov that tries to connect the will of the people with this nation’s highest political office? Well, if you try to access it, this is the message you get:
The GOP is refusing to listen to the will of the people, and instead have shut down the government, which has eliminated federal funding for a program that specifically encourages the government to listen to the will of the people.
It’s like a recursive loop of political self-righteousness and disdain.
