Gothamist reports today that the NYPD are seeking the public’s help in identifying two suspects in an alleged anti-Asian hate crime that occurred last month on the New York City subway.

According to police, a 29 year old Asian American woman was riding the 1 subway with her parents when she reported that two women boarded the car she was in at the 86th street station. The women, who were reportedly wearing multicoloured leis, approached the victim and began beating her while shouting anti-Asian slurs.

Reports Gothamist, and quoting from an NYPD statement on the crime:

The assault took place in Manhattan on Sunday, June 26th, at 7:30 p.m., according to the NYPD. Cops say two women boarded the 1 train at 86th Street, “at which time one of the females leaned towards the victim, screaming and shouting profanities. The females proceeded to pull the victim to the floor, punch her in the head while making anti-Asian statements.”

The assailants fled at the Cathedral Parkway station, at West 110th Street and Broadway.

The victim suffered multiple bruises to her head and torso, as well as a concussion. NYPD released surveillance video footage of the alleged attackers, and are now seeking the public’s help in identifying them.

Anyone with any information on the incident is invited to call NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), or to visit the Crime Stoppers website.
