One of my favourite non-profits — APIAVote — is seeking summer interns for 2016! APIAVote is one of the nation’s premier non-partisan AAPI-focused voter registration and civic engagement non-profit group.

If you’re an AAPI student with an interest in social justice, you should definitely take advantage of APIAVote’s summer intern program, particularly this year as the nation approaches a major presidential election wherein the AAPI vote is likely to be unprecedentedly influential. Already, the Clinton campaign has taken the early lead in trying to appeal to the Asian American vote with other candidates likely to follow suit. APIAVote’s summer internship program will grant you the opportunity to get into the heart of this year’s political action (and I could not be more jealous).

More details after the jump!

Here is APIAVote’s full announcement:

Asian and Pacific Islander American Vote (APIAVote) is looking for energetic and motivated interns passionate about civic engagement to join our team in Washington, D.C. for the Summer of 2016. APIAVote encourages and promotes civic participation of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (AANHPIs) in electoral and political participation at the national, state and local levels. APIAVote envisions a society in which all AANHPIs fully participate in and have access to the democratic process.

The APIAVote Internship Program strives to encourage and cultivate young student leaders to explore a career in the public sector or the political arena. This internship program will also provide hands on experience and training on how to organize and implement voter activities to increase the participation of AAPIs in the electoral process.

For the summer of 2016, we are offering both paid and unpaid internships based in Washington, D.C. If you are interested in remote, unpaid internships throughout the year, please apply as well.

Interns will get hands-on experience working on APIAVote’s YouthVote campaign to register to vote and turnout young AANHPIs, planning the Las Vegas Presidential Candidates Town Hall in August, and other communications or media strategies to better engage our communities across the country.

Eligible applicants include undergraduate and graduate students, with applications due by March 11, 2016.

Completed applications include the submission of an online form as well as requested documents (below) sent to [email protected]

Applications must include:

  1. Submission of online application form
    • In the online form, submit a 500 word essay on the question: “Why are you interested in the APIAVote internship program and what are tangible steps or ideas you can do to increase AAPI youth civic engagement?”

    • Resume including Education, Work Experience, Political Experience, Extracurricular Activities, Awards/Honors
    • Copy of most current academic transcript

If I didn’t already have a full-time job (and if I weren’t already an old fart), I would definitely be applying to join APIAVote’s summer intern program.
