Yesterday, a super typhoon dubbed Haiyan (which boasted 200mph winds) made landfall on the Philippine coast, and demolished homes across that country, including the bustling city of Tacloban. The Philippine Red Cross estimates at least 1,200 people are dead while the mayor of Tacloban puts those estimates at closer to 10,000. Images of Tacloban in the wake of Haiyan are heart-wrenching, with homes reduced to matchsticks.

Please donate to the American Red Cross or to other reputable charities, and please spread the word to encourage others to donate as well.

My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by super-storm Haiyan. If you are looking for someone in the Philippines, please use Google’s Person Finder.
